Apple’s Reasoning:

“Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars. Users observing a drop of several bars when they grip their iPhone in a certain way are most likely in an area with very weak signal strength, but they don’t know it because we are erroneously displaying 4 or 5 bars. Their big drop in bars is because their high bars were never real in the first place.”

So Apple is saying that it’s not the antenna fault it’s just that the formula to display the bars for the signal is wrong and displaying 2 bars too many. Really, Apple Really?

Obviously, there is more to this cause otherwise I wouldn’t be able to make a call at all when I only had 1 or 2 bars. I really can’t see Apple being this stupid to have the formula wrong. Personally I wonder if they did it on purpose to try and make AT&T’s coverage look better. Think about it as long as the phone can get 2 bars of coverage and you know the call will work why not show 4 bars and make it look like the coverage is better, It’s a pretty simple coding method to do something like this and to do it when the coverage is more than 2 bars.

Don’t get me wrong I still love my apple products and my iPhone 4, but I still think there is more to this story.

I got an email from Apple this morning sating that the phone will be delivered tomorrow. Can I just tell you how happy I am I have been going crazy without my iPhone I feel so unproductive without it. But all that will change by tomorrow. When the fed-ex man pulls up to my house and knocks on my door.

And don’t worry I will let you all know as soon as that happens.

For the last 2.5 years I have had my iPhone by my side, that is until this last week. I was lucky enough to have Apple replace my iPhone 3Gs so I decided to sell it on eBay so I could get the most $$ out of it. In doing so meant that I am iPhoneless until the new one comes out on June 24th. And if you don’t know me not having my iPhone with me is a big deal.

So here is a few things I have noticed so far:

I leave my phone everywhere and anywhere and forget where it is. I never really had this problem with the iPhone cause I always had it one me.

I hate sending text messages. The are just annoying now and my hand cramps up from it in no time.

It took me what seemed like forever to get used the my currently replacement phone, the Blackberry Pearl (Thanks Jon & Michelle for letting me borrow it)

I never use my phone for more then just Calls and Testing

I am using the iPad even more, but it is still not good enough as a replacement for the iPhone

I really miss having an iPhone when I see someone else with one.

I have little to no clue what’s going on at work when I am not in the office. (kinda like this one)

So, I have one more week to go and now I have a website I can check every day to know that my new iPhone will be coming, even though I am pretty positive that the details on the website wont change till next Tuesday or even Wednesday, I still can’t help, but check it a couple times a day, just incase.

Today, I went to the apple store and was able to have them replace my 3GS with a new one because of some issues I was having.

Obviously, I am taking advantage of my new iPhone and putting it on eBay while it is still new. So I am leaving it in the plastic and going back to a junkie flip phone for the next 2 weeks. I know to most of you that may not be such a big deal, but lets just say that my wife will be very happy to see if go for a couple weeks so I wont “always be on it”.

Of course the main reason why I am doing this is so I can pre-order the new iPhone next week and get it the day it comes out. I thought that I would be able to hold off, but after watching the keynote yesterday and seeing all the upgraded features, I just can’t say no. So in the long run it will be worth it and hopefully the iPad will help me with the withdraws, but only time will tell. I’ll be sure to keep you all posted.

Even though the image says 193mins it really probably took a little over 2 hours total, where my desktop on the same network could have done it in less than one.

I am not really sure why it take the iPhone and iPad so long to download movies via the iTunes store, but I must say it is kinda annoying and I would definitely recommend downloading via a computer and syncing the files if you have the option.

If anyone has any knowledge to why this is I would love to know.

I don’t know about you, but I can pretty easily use 1.5GBs on my iPhone a month, So I am sure I would kill this plan with a 3G iPad.

I know the average user isn’t me so maybe it is not that big of a deal, but this device could really become a desktop(laptop) replacement for some of the everyday computer users.

Guess only time will tell on what will happen next hopefully it is a sign to come hat Apple will finally drop the AT&T exclusivity and open up to more carriers, even if it is just T-Mobile to start with.

If you haven’t seen it yet woot.com has a pretty cool Apple VS. Flash shirt for sale for only 10 dollars, But sadly as I am writing this it is now sold out. But even though you can have it on a T-Shirt now, doesn’t mean that you cant have it. When I saw this I couldn’t help, but laugh and want one at the same time, but sadly I am not much of a T-shirt guy, so instead I decided to create it for something that I always have one me and of course is one of the reasons why this image was created.

So I hope you enjoy the wallpaper and I am sure it will work decently well on an iphone screen as well with little to no modification.

A couple weeks ago I set out to try and figure out, how to install the same application twice on the iPhone. The results where slim to none and there was only one site I found that had promise, but every time I tried it the app would crash before it could fully load. So I decided to take the little information I had learned and figure it out on my own. And I am happy to say I had success and have had the same application on the iPhone working for a week with no issues.

Watch the video or follow the step by step directions and if you have any issue getting it to work just let me know what app and I will see what I can do.

Directions

Open iTunes

Go into the Application section

Right click on the application you want to duplicate

Select Show in Finder (Show in Explorer on PCs)

Right click on the .ipa file and copy it to you desktop (or where every you’d like)

Replace the .ipa with .zip – An IPA files is just another type of a .Zip file

Un-compress the zip file

Open the new folder and Go into the Payload folder

Right click on the App and select show package contents (MAC ONLY STEP, Should just be a folder on the Windows)

Find the Info.plist files and open it in you favorite editor. (I prefer Plist Editor Pro)

Change the “Bundle display” name to whatever you’d like. This is the name that will be displayed on the iPhone (optional step)

Change the “Bundle identifier” (I recommend just putting a 2 at the end.)

Save the file

Open your favorite FTP software and connect into your iPhone/iPod Touch

Navigate to the root directory and then into the Application folder

Transfer the application into this folder

Reboot or Respiring your iPhone/iPod and the application should now be somewhere on your home-screen

Open the App and enjoy

If you have any issue please watch the video above.

So this article would have started out with how great this little device is for how little the cost, but since it broke on me the other day after only using it for a week my thoughts on it have taken a slight turn.

Don’t get me wrong the device is great and it will give you more then double the iPhone’s battery and all that for about $15 bucks is amazing/ Others backups hold half the capacity size and sell for almost 3 times as much.

But the flaws come into play with the design. The item is very large and connects to the phone with no support other then the connector itself, making it only safe to use when laying flat on a surface. Putting it in a pocket or other unstable surface could lead to damaging the device or worse your iPhone or iPod itself.

So I would still recommend the MonoPrice backup solution is you are wanting something that will give you the best bang for the cost, but be warned that you must me very careful with it cause it could end up costing you more then you planned.

Side Note: I am currently in talks with MonoPrice to try and get my battery replaced I will updated this page with my progress when I hear back from them.

Normally I would just shell out the $25 bucks and go on, but with it so close to Christmas and my NYC trip, I really don’t want to spend any more then necessary right now, even though I do use it daily and I believe it is worth the cost.

However, as I was looking for a cheaper alternative. I noticed that RTM had a mobile version of there site. But even more importantly, I noticed that the push notifications from the RTM app were still coming through everyday. Now if I open the actual app I get a pro account required screen and get booted out, but to me the popup notifications is what I use the app for.

So, for all you iPhone/iPod-Touch users out there, all you need to do is download the RTM app from the app store, setup a trial account. Get the setting just the way you want them, use the app during the trial, then switch to the mobile version once your trial runs out. I also recommend creating a shortcut to the mobile version on your iPhone/iPod-Touch home screen. If you call it the same name as the RTM app it will have the same icon (see images below). After that I just moved the RTM app icon to my last home screen page and all is well and I get to keep my $25 bucks for my trip.
