So today is the big day! Apple’s Let’s Rock conference will begin at 1:00pm Eastern. And all the rumors will be either squashed or proven. I think we can all agree, that the iPod Touch price will be reduced and that the new nano, that has been seen everywhere on the internet will be announce. But my favorite rumor is that of a new Apple TV, even if it’s likely-hood is slim to none.
The rumors claim:
- Blu-ray disc player; of course one that can also play DVDs and CDs.
- ATSC tuner. That’s a fancy way of saying over-the-air digital TV.
- 500G hard drive (1T optional).
- WiFi.
- DVR capability added to iTunes 8.0.
- Time Capsule functionality, in other words, Time Machine backup.
- Full Safari browser and support for (optional) keyboard.
- Various new and improved options for Internet video.
- Support for using the iPhone or the iPod touch as smart remotes.
I know some of these are a little too good to be true, I think the Blu-Ray support alone probably squashes the rumor since Apple has yet to offer a blu-ray drive for it’s desktops. And I also know it hasn’t been a year since the last version, but just the rumors of the new Apple TV having DVR support gets me excited. Mainly because, it’s the only reason why I haven’t bought one and if it were to come true I could ditch my Windows Media Center PC and buy one of these bad boys.
I guess only time will tell.
